Lighting - The Home Depot

Retail

Lighting

The Project

The Home Depot had a strategic objective to replace its HID lighting in all stores to reduce energy bills and provide for lower maintenance costs at 1,140 sites across the US (including AK, HI and Puerto Rico).  The project also required confirming the energy management system was fully operational, meaning that in fact, each evening 75% of the lighting would turn off throughout the store per plan.  QPM role also included confirming energy rebates from the local/regional power companies were received by the client.

The QPM Solution

QPM bid out lighting replacement programs utilizing regional lighting contractors.  Regional contractors were used for faster rollout capabilities.  QPM made sure the lights were installed correctly without impacting store operations in any way, made sure they tied into the client’s national Energy Management Programs, coordinated the disposal of the old lights and completed and processed the paperwork for energy rebates that may have been available in some locales.

The Results

QPM completed the T-5 light installations at 1,140 stores over 4 years time resulting in a 20% savings per location per year on energy costs, in addition to multiple rebates received on over half of the locations.  QPM completed all projects as assigned, and were able to add an additional 110 projects to the program, above the 330 in process, during the last 3 months of a single project year at the client’s request.
